The Chicago School Board of Trustees welcomes
two new members this semester: The Reverend Mary
E. Tudela and Archdiocese of Chicago Chancellor
Jimmy M. Lago. Both were elected to three-year
terms at the board’s winter meeting.
Rev. Tudela is a priest at St. Michael Episcopal
church and serves as a private leadership coach
at META Leadership Coaching Inc. An active member
of the community, she has received honors from
the Anti-Defamation League as a “Woman of Achievement”
and recognition by Hispanic Business Magazine as
one of the “Top 100 Influential Hispanics.” The
Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement and VISTA
Magazine honored her with awards for career excellence.
Chancellor Lago has been active in the Catholic
community for many years. His previous posts include
the Archbishop’s delegate for operations and government
relations, executive director of the Catholic Charities
of Archdiocese of Chicago and Catholic Conference
of Illinois, working as chief of staff to Francis
Cardinal George, and staff assistant to Joseph
Cardinal Bernardin.
“The Chicago School’s Board has again expanded
its breadth to include two important leaders from
our religious communities,” said Chicago School
President Michael Horowitz. “Thanks to the addition
of Rev. Tudela and Chancellor Lago, our board is
more diverse and connected.”
Chancellor Lago is no stranger to board work.
He also serves on the Center for Child Welfare
and Education’s advisory board, and was appointed
by Mayor Richard Daley to serve on the Chicago
Workforce Board. He is also on the Board of Governors
for the Metropolitan Planning Council and serves
on the General Ethics Review Board for the Office
of Inspector of the Illinois Department of Children
and Family Services.
In addition to her clergy work, Rev. Tudela also
brings more than 24 years of management experience
in the telecommunications industry, working for
such organizations as SBC Communications Inc. and
Ameritech. Her extensive board work includes the
Chicago Foundation of Women, Leadership Illinois,
College Summit, Leadership Greater Chicago, Advocate
Health Systems, and Travelers and Immigrant Aid.
